iCal, Zimbra and CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation

So, found a solution (finally) for the annoying triangle in my OS X Calendar. It’s been there quite a while…

For anyone who has been working with Zimbra for a longer time (say, since version 4.1) you might have noticed that in it’s OS X counterparts Calendars and Reminders seem to integrate. This was obviously because of the CalDav protocol which resembled the webdav protocol too much. Opening a browser and going to your webdav URL also showed (reserved Names) next to your Calendar names, also the tasks names. However in the new OS X Reminders app, instead of showing the tasks name from webdav, it ALSO showed the Calendar names.
This means: Zimbra Calendar had a dual function (unintended): appointments and reminders. Of course, in later combinations of zimbra and OS X this was fixed. Some while ago – when iCloud was introduced – this annoying warning in my calendar list appeared, which stated “CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation” failed. Yet the calendars seem to work fine, as does the Reminders list.

I finally put 1 and 1 together with thanks to this article from 2014: the conclusion was: Zimbra & iCal have individual enable/disable checkmarks for tasks/reminders synchronisation to the cloud. But apparently there is a third one. I was looking in Internet Accounts, and should have been looking at the iCloud settings. And even there: in the iCloud settings from 10.12.5, reminders was unchecked?
But that setting was not the issue, no, you need to go INTO the iCloud Drive options, and there disable Reminders.

That did the trick; closing and opening iCal – everything still works but no more annoying error….

SAAS means “software as a service”. Several CDN (Content Delivery Network) buyers are left alone after the initial sale and setup for their environment. Simple management operations like changes, additions and removals, must be requested via the CDN providers support package. In all cases this package is overly expensive if you take into account the duration for these simple tasks.

SharePoint 2013 Search

Search is a very big part of almost every SharePoint site but searching through the content is not the goal, finding the correct content is. In this post I will give 8 tips to get better search results!

Refinement panel

Use the refinement panel on the search results page to narrow down the results. When SharePoint displays the search results you can filter the results by using the refinement panel. Common refinement options are result type, author and modified date.

Use Boolean operators

Boolean operators are used to narrow or expand the search results. Capitalization usually does not matter in search, except for operators. For Boolean operators to work correctly they need to be written in capitals.

  • Use AND to narrow your search results. The returned search results include all of the free text expressions
  • NOT Use NOT to narrow your search results. The returned search results don’t include the specified free text expressions or property restrictions.
  • OR Use OR to expand your search to include more terms. The returned search results include one or more of the specified free text expressions or property restrictions.

Use wildcards

Use a wildcard * if you want to be sure to get variations of the term you are looking for or if you are not sure about the spelling.
Example: Project* to search for all item starting with the word project.

Use double quotes

Use double quotes “” to find exact phrases if you are sure about the phrases.
Example: “Progress report”

Use Search shortcuts

SharePoint search has a few handy shortcuts that make searching for specific types of content faster and easier. When using a shortcut SharePoint combines property filters to narrow down the search results. When searching for a document called Projectplan search for projectplan doc instead of projectplan. In the background SharePoint will change the search shortcut from doc into filetype:doc OR filetype:docx, filtering the results and displaying only Word documents.

Use Specifying properties

The most easy way to explain what properties are is to use the less technical term SharePoint uses which is; metadata. Metadata is the data captured to describe the content. By default SharePoint captures a lot of metadata such as document title, document type, last modified date. The main purpose of using metadata is to make sure all the content stored in SharePoint can be found easily.

A basic property restriction consists of the following three parts: a property name a operator and a value. Example: Author:John or Title:Projectplan

7 Use Property restrictions (operators)

When using properties to narrow down the search results it is possible to make the search query even more specific with the use of different property restrictions. The most used and best known is the : operator. When using the : operator the returned results will all be equal to the specified value . There are a lot more operators available a few examples are:

ECM/EDM & SharePoint

Zoals de meesten misschien weten ben ik in de Enterprise Content en Document wereld bekent met vele software pakketten, sorry: platvormen, welke zich bezighouden met collaboration, kennismanagement, en websites. Ik schrijf expliciet platvormen omdat mijn basis voor server gebaseerde applicaties bijna allemaal een *nix zijn en niet Microsoft (Windows Server). Natuurlijk wel met integraties in MSOffice op Windows, en andere content creation software, maar het gebrek aan robuustheid bij de MS platvormen (elke security update een reboot versus het al 3 jaar niet herstart hebben van een *nix server) hebben mijn voorkeur wel degelijk van MS weggeschoven. En dan al die verhalen… Windows Vista -> flop. Windows 8 -> flop….

Het is nu ruim 15 jaar later en ik zit bij een club mensen die zich bezighouden met MS SharePoint implementaties. En er is een boel veranderd. Nee, het werkt niet zo soepel als andere systemen, sorry platvormen, die ik gezien heb. Maar het is wel een stuk verder. Gebruiksvriendelijk? Ja, dat altijd bij MS zo geweest. Intuïtief? Niet meer dan andere MS software, dat zou een nee kunnen zijn. Functioneel? Jazeker! Robuust? Ja, meer en meer.

Ik ben maar begonnen met het verzamelen van SharePoint informatie, er zijn legio bronnen op het internet beschikbaar. En ik wil een certificaat halen. Ik zie de MS server wereld ondertussen wel met nieuwe ogen.
Maar van mijn Mac blijven ze af 😉
